Sound Slide

Goal Connect the height of the hand with pitch.

1. Drag your finger slowly from bottom to top and listen for the change.
2. Stop your hand high for a high sound and low for a low sound.
3. Alternate two sounds and say ‘high’ and ‘low’.

Color Pitch Map

Goal Predict pitch while following the color order.

1. Agree that the left colors are the low path and the right colors are the high path.
2. Look at my three colors and say the pitch direction before playing.
3. Play after predicting and check whether your ears agree.

Read the Note Steps

Goal Connect a note’s staff position with its name.

1. Point out that a note higher on the staff makes a higher sound.
2. Choose the solfege name and listen to check it.
3. Have a friend find and play the note on the xylophone.

If it is hard If the staff feels new, use the easy level with only three notes.
