Small Sound, Big Sound

Goal Notice that the strength of a tap changes the loudness.

  1. Tap the big drum softly with your fingertips, then tap it slowly with your palm.
  2. When I say ‘small,’ make a small sound; when I say ‘big,’ make a big sound.
  3. Finish by choosing one sound for a friend to copy.

Where Does the Rain Go?

Goal Experience how direction and speed change the sound.

  1. Hold the rainstick flat and listen quietly, then tilt it slowly to one side.
  2. Stop your hands when the raindrops begin to move faster.
  3. Take turns making a ‘path for the rain’ and listen together.
